Aged Terra Cotta & Succulents 🌡

Aged Terra Cotta & Succulents 🌡

Did y’all know I used to kill all succulents? I loved them WAY TOO MUCH & would water them to death…. Literally πŸ˜‚!

I finally figured out the trick it to totally ignore them!! I’m still struggling with the snake plant / mother in law tongue! I’ve killed so many of them and I was told to start ignoring them and they still seem to dieπŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ!

Here are some of this months cute fashion finds! πŸ‘‡πŸ½πŸ‘‡πŸ½πŸ‘‡πŸ½πŸ‘‡πŸ½πŸ‘‡πŸ½πŸ‘‡πŸ½πŸ‘‡πŸ½

Anyway… let’s age some terra cotta pots and plant some cute succulents in them!

Items needed:

  • Terra cotta pots
  • Garden lime ( in garden section of Home Depot or lowes) or you can use dirt
  • Water, plastic spoon or something to stir with & and old cup or plastic cup
  • Sanding pad
  • Clear spray on sealer (I prefer matte)
  • Old paint brush
  • Succulent potting soil
  • Rocks
  • Succulents

Aging Terra Cotta

Aging the terra cotta is a bit messy, but the mess washes right off! There are SO MANY different r ways to do this, but I’ve used this method for years.

Mix your garden lime with water in an old cup or a plastic cup. You want the mixture to me a mud consistency so start with a small amount of water and add more as needed. I never measure it. I just add the lime and then water and give it a mix with a plastic spoon or something.

After you have a mud consistency then paint it onto the terra cotta pot. Try not to leave it clumpy. If you do it’s okay, but it will require more sanding. I had a little handsome helper for this project (see video at the end) so I had a bit more sanding to do. lol.

Let this dry. If you leave them in the sun this usually only takes a couple hours.

Once dry just lightly sand any areas that are clumpy. Don’t want too hard or you will take off all of the garden lime.

Once sanded spray on the sealer. I like to do 2 coats allowing about 30 minutes to dry in between each coat.

Succulents

I had several cacti that popped up in an old pot o had outside so I decided to ages some pots and plant them for the kids. My daughter and daughter in law have recently become obsessed with being succulent moms. Here are a few pictures of them.

I purchased a couple more to add to these.

Be sure your pots are completely dry.

I added some rocks to the bottom of the pot. Just a small layer.

Then add your soil.

Now decide how you want to place your succulents. We recently went to a place where you pick a pot and pick different succulents and then plant them, so I got a lot of cute ideas from there.

These are the ones me made there!

It really depends on the size of you pot, but I recommend placing plants of different heights.

For these small terra cotta pots I’m planting 3 smaller succulents.

I added one taller one and then 2 smaller plants.

Then add another small layer of rocks and you’re all done. 🌡

What do y’all think? Don’t forget there’s a short video below.
