Pumpkin Vase DIY using Foam / Plastic Pumpkins

This is another Fall DIY I’ve seen all over social media so I figured I would give it a try.

I watched several of these tutorials and they all made it look so easy! They just cut the top off of the plastic pumpkins and then popped the arrangement in. I’ve seen people add a vase with water and flowers, as well as artificial flowers.

Items needed:
- Plastic pumpkin
- Knife
- Flowers

First pull off the pumpkin stem and then cut the top off. You can use a knife for this (I used my electric carving knife). Of course be careful not to cut yourself. I cut it in a pattern just like when I remove the top of a real pumpkin.

Once you open up the pumpkin it’s supposed to be as easy as adding your flowers, BUT…. my pumpkin was full of styrofoam. I watched several tutorials and never saw this mentioned!
At first I almost threw the pumpkin away, but I then decided to attempt poking the stems of my artificial flowers in the styrofoam.

I filled the center of my arrangement with pampas grass. Since mine has styrofoam I broke several of my stems while trying to do this, but kept working with it and managed to get it filled. I then cut a floral bundle and added some small flowers around the outside. This part was really easy since the artificial flower stems are pretty strong.

What do y’all think? I think it turned out pretty cute 🙂
If your pumpkin is hollow then use a vase or glue a small piece of floral foam in the bottom to keep your arrangement in place.
Let me know if you try this!! 🫶🏽
